WHY I SEEK THE OFFICE OF PRESIDENT:
I am seeking election to the office of President-elect because I believe I have the experience as demonstrated above in the summaries of local, regional and state-level activities to effectively represent community college faculty during these times of severe budgetary constraints. My knowledge of local and State issues provides me the tools and skills to effectively advocate for and articulate community college faculty concerns on the key issues today: adequate funding, 50% law challenges, progress towards 75/25, Part-time faculty employment and equity issues, accreditation. Most recently, as chair of the FACCC Legislative Committee I helped in the successful FACCC effort to pass legislation to permit part-time faculty to participate in the State Disability Insurance program. Currently the Legislative Committee is working in conjunction with the FACCC Part-time Committee on AB1807 (Part-time reemployment rights). At CCC Board of Governors’ meetings I presented public comments advocating faculty (full and part-time) concerns about categorical funding “flexibility”, among other issues. As FACCC Executive Committee liaison to the Professional Development Committee I helped in the Committee’s successful Diversity and Equity Conference in 2009.
I ask for your support to continue all this important work in the next few years.
