It has been a pleasure to serve on the FACCC Board for the past two years, and I would like the opportunity to continue. The challenges that confront community colleges, though daunting, are not insurmountable, and I know that FACCC will continue to lead in advocating for faculty and students.
As a Part-Time Faculty Governor, it has been a particular honor to represent and advocate for my part-time colleagues. I am proud to have played an active role in the passage of AB 381, providing part-time faculty the ability to participate in SDI. This was truly a personal victory, as it was a cause I had been advocating for a number of years. I also developed a workshop for the FACCC Part-Time Faculty Symposium on applying for Unemployment Insurance, a benefit that has become increasingly necessary during the current budget crises.
The upcoming legislative session will involve AB 1807, Reemployment Rights legislation, and I look forward to working with FACCC’s Part-Time and Legislative Committees as well as the statewide coalition on advocating support and passage. Probably the most daunting priority for me is securing restoration of the part-time faculty categorical funding, but I believe that FACCC is well situated to take on this challenge, and I would like to be a part of the support system.
Locally, I serve as the Part-Time Associate Secretary for the Foothill-De Anza Faculty Association and am a member of the FHDA Executive Council and the De Anza College Academic Senate.
