Sharon Hendricks

Before I began teaching, I worked with special needs children as a clinical speech-language pathologist.  This population, who all had significant speech and language issues related to autism and down syndrome, made me realize the importance of advocacy.   Many of the kids I worked with had no family or financial support and needed me to speak on their behalf to make sure they received appropriate services. If I didn’t speak on these kids’ behalf, who would? Now,  as an educator in California in these tough economic times, I am reminded again of how important it is to take a leadership role and be an advocate for students and faculty at our California Community Colleges.  As FACCC Region B Governor, I will bring faculty and students from our region, together with the rest of the state, to inform and partner with legislators to protect faculty benefits, keep student fees low, and help restore California’s focus on the value of a quality and affordable education.
