Suzanne Crawford

College: Cerritos College
Dept./Discipline: English

Local Experience (59):  At my college I presently serve on the union executive board as secretary and on its bargaining team. Before becoming full-time tenured at Cerritos College, I was active in two districts as a part-timer: South Orange County and Coast. I served on the former's negotiating team and executive board. In Coast's local, I was vice president of part-time faculty.

Statewide Experience (70): My service to FACCC includes five years on the Communications Committee, three of those as chair. I have written numerous articles on issues of interest to faculty and was recently recipient of the John McFarland Literary Achievement Award.  Past service includes FACCC’s part-time faculty committee.  Involvement in statewide part-time issues includes participation on the executive board of CPFA as well as on part-time issues committees for both CCA/CTA and CCC/CFT.

Education (24): I possess MA and BA degrees in English and am currently working on a Doctorate in Education specializing in Higher Education and Adult Learning.

Goals in seeking this office (92): Deeply concerned about those issues facing California—budget, basic skills, student learning outcomes, green campuses, accreditation, STRS—I have researched and written on these subjects as well as served on negotiating teams where these were addressed locally.  I now hope to work with the leadership of FACCC in pursuing its mission of advocating on behalf of faculty as central to student access and success.  As a representative of Region C on FACCC’s Board of Governors, I aspire to give voice to all faculty—part-time and full-time; instructional and non-instructional—in those critical matters concerning community colleges.
