No FACCCTS columnist has inspired as many passionate responses as John F. McFarland.

A former FACCC president, McFarland’s prolific columns, often in the form of book reviews, offered a unique insight on the world, inspiring readers across the state. McFarland’s classroom achievements were recognized in 1995 when he received a prestigious Gerald Hayward Award for Excellence in Teaching.

In 2004, FACCC created the annual John McFarland Literary Achievement Award, in recognition of a full- or part-time faculty member who contributes to the education of faculty, and promotes faculty issues through FACCC’s publications.

We have named our online writers corner in honor of John, and hope his work encourages you to conduct your own entries.
