- car100@earthlink.ne (carrol w. waymon)Hi:
there seems to be a consensus at Mesa that the administration does listen to the faculty
within the context of shared governance. Yes, I have participated in this process as a
member of the academic senate and as a member of several committees.Carrol
- TQNELSON@aol.comDo administrators on your
campus listen to faculty in the shared governance process?
Yes. In my experience our American River College administration has been quite open in
meeting the requirements for shared governance, and in meeting the AB 1725 guidelines (and
sometimes beyond). Exceptions? Oh, sure. But exceptions there will always be (on both
sides), sometimes inadvertent, sometimes known. Arguments? Sure, but that also is an
expected part of the process. Change comes hard to all parties.
Generally, though, IMHO, our experience at the campus level has been positive.
Have you participated in shared governance?
Yes. I have been a member of the Academic Senate for over 10 years (with a couple of years
as an officer)Del Nelson, Business Area, Management Department, Academic Senate
Member, American River College
- nprotoro@mendocino.cc.ca.usOur
shared governance process is working fine. Faculty serve on all major planning, budget,
and governance committees and have an advisory seat on the Board of Trustees. We do not
always get everything we want, but our administrators bend over backwards to make the
shared governance process work.Nancy Proto-Robinson, Outgoing President, Mendocino
College Academic Senate.
