Question of the Month
December 2002
Assemblyman Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto)
recently addressed the FACCC Board of Governors during its November meeting. In his
capacity as chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance, Simitian
warned that due to the dire state of the budget, legislation carrying a state or district
cost will likely be derailed immediately. What issues on your campus or in your district could be resolved without
additional finances? Recent examples
of such legislation include AB 2146 (Chu) exempting intercessions from the 60 percent law
for part-timers based on local collective bargaining agreements, and AB 2506 (Steinberg)
mandating that a comparative chart of 403 (b) supplemental plans be posted on the CalSTRS
Web site.
