California's Budget and Its Impact on Community Colleges

Major funding decisions affecting California community colleges are under consideration as the Legislature enters the final stages of the state budget process. The Senate and Assembly each released their 2026–27 budget proposals as "shell" bills, with the Senate introducing AB 109 and the Assembly using SB 109. The Legislature faces a June 15 constitutional deadline to pass a budget, with final budget language required to be in print at least 72 hours beforehand.

For community colleges, both houses propose adjustments to enrollment funding, significant investments in student support services and deferred maintenance, and more.
