FACCC / ASCCC
L
egislative & Advocacy Training Webinar
Over the past decade, the Californi a Community Colleges have undergone dramatic changes resulting from legisla tive reform and the budget process. While the legislation is well-intended, it may not address the problem it is trying to fix, and in fact, legislati ve changes often have unintended consequences affecting student success. As future legislation is imminent, it is essential for faculty to be strong a dvocates at the state level with a fundamental understanding of policy deve lopment.
This webinar will cover the role of the Board of Governors of the California Community C olleges, the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office, various sys tem partners, and outside advocacy groups and how they influence state-leve l policy development. The webinar will begin with the nuts and bolts of the state legislative process, provide assistance in following and tracking le gislation, and then focus on sharing the voice of faculty with confidence t o connect with local state-wide representatives effectively.
Join your Academic Senate for Califo rnia Community Colleges and Faculty Association of California Community Col leges colleagues to learn about how to advocate on behalf of faculty and st udents at the state level.
