My name is Emily Haraldson and I’m seeking a seat on the FACCC Board of Governors as a Large College Governor. As a proud member of FACCC since 2013, I have worked with several committees: Communications, Legislative and Budget, and Leadership and Advocacy. In addition to my committee work, I was entrusted to help lead FACCC as Interim Executive Director from January to September 2024. I also served as the Southern California FACCC Ambassador from August 2024 to June 2025 where I traveled to college campuses to provide information about the amazing work that FACCC does for faculty in service of students, attended and promoted membership of FACCC at the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges plenary sessions, and met with local campus leaders about the benefits of FACCC contract and individual memberships. My goal has always been to get faculty members to say, “FACCC YES!”
Recently, I was honored as a recipient of the Jonathan Lightman FACCCtivist Award at the Advocacy and Policy Conference in February of this year, an honor that I will carry forward with the same spirit of service to others.
In addition to my years-long service to FACCC, I served my faculty at Glendale Community College as President of my union - Glendale College Guild, AFT-2276 - during the Covid-19 years from 2020-2023 and as a part-time and full-time representative on my union’s negotiations team for several years prior. I also currently serve on the California Federation of Teacher’s Higher Education Issues committee and the Racial and Social Justice ad hoc committee. I am passionate about faculty issues and working conditions, especially at the statewide level.
At Glendale Community College, I am the current chair of the Art History Department. My teaching and scholarship focus is on modern and contemporary art, feminist art, and political visual culture, using art as a tool to explore equity, social justice, and civic engagement.
I am humbly asking for your vote for this seat. You can trust that I will continue to fight the good fight for all of us who care and advocate for ourselves, our institutions, and our students. Thank you!
