Your participation in FACCC is welcome and I offer to serve as your vice-president. My perspective is based on 20 years of faculty service at California community colleges.
I have taught primarily at LA City and LA Mission colleges in the LA Community College District. Alongside colleagues from throughout California, I have been actively involved in a broad range of efforts to improve working conditions for community college faculty.
Through my involvement with AFT and CFT, I have worked with colleagues in San Diego, San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Sacramento, Orange County, Fresno and other major areas of our state. I have been a part of promoting the March in March and advocating for legislation and agreements that improve our working conditions.
In Los Angeles, I have served as a member of the contract negotiating team and helped to negotiate model health care access for adjunct faculty and their dependents that is fully paid for. I have been a part of developing constructive and cooperative associations with our CTA and K-12 colleagues to enhance our influence in public elections.
My recent visits to the State Capitol have included several days of meetings with legislators and participation as a delegate to the California Labor Federation. Priorities I consistently communicate to our state’s leaders include increasing access and affordability, funding, and increasing support for our students.
Other relevant experience includes service on the FACCC Board of Governors and the FACCC PAC, CFT Higher Education Committee, and service as the Director of Government Relations for the LA College Faculty Guild.
My academic discipline is Political Science. As a student I transferred from Pasadena City College and earned degrees from CSU Northridge and Baylor University.
Our community colleges have broad public support and California has the resources needed to further support our work. Working together we can improve our employment conditions and effectively advocate for our members.
If elected, I will honor your vote and serve to the best of my ability. Thank you for your consideration of my candidacy.
