Isabel Siderakis, Candidate for Governor for Part-Time (Northern Region)
Mendocino College

I am honored to submit my candidacy for the FACCC Board. As an instructor of Administration of Justice at Mendocino College and an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, my career has been defined by a deep commitment to public service and overall wellness advocacy. My professional path is unique since I have over a decade in law enforcement, experience in clinical counseling, and teach at a community college. This background allows me to offer a multifaceted perspective on the real challenges facing California faculty and students today.

In my classroom, I do more than just teach the technical aspects of the justice system. I am currently piloting a program specifically for Spanish speaking students because I believe equity must be an active practice rather than a passive goal. By developing academic resources in Spanish and English, I aim to break down the language barriers that often prevent talented individuals from pursuing careers in public service. As a bilingual professional, I recognize that our faculty must reflect the language and cultural diversity of the communities we serve to truly foster an inclusive environment.

Beyond the classroom, my background in school based mental health informs my approach to advocacy. I understand that for students to succeed academically, they and their instructors need a supportive and well resourced system in place. My involvement in committees focused on diversity and equity has reinforced my resolve to advocate for policies that prioritize holistic well being and professional development. I am particularly interested in how FACCC can further champion mental health resources and workload sustainability for faculty to ensure we are all equipped to meet the evolving needs of our students especially during current times.

My prior experience in law enforcement provided me with a grounded understanding of organizational leadership and systemic reform. Now, as an educator and counselor, I apply those lessons to advocate for “at promise” or just impacted students by helping them navigate the complexities of higher education. I have seen firsthand how early intervention and dedicated mentorship can transform lives. I am eager to make the impact by contributing to the legislative and policy work of the FACCC Board.

If elected, I will bring a voice dedicated to transparency, cultural humility, and the strengthening of the faculty student bond. I am committed to ensuring that the Faculty Association continues to be a powerful advocate for the resources and recognition that our diverse faculty body deserves. I appreciate your consideration and look forward to the opportunity to serve.

Respectfully submitted,

Isabel Siderakis
