Richard Mahon, Allan Hancock College

Richard Mahon is a product of the California Community Colleges system, having graduated from West Valley College.

Richard taught courses in history, humanities, philosophy and political science as a part-time faculty member at Diablo Valley College, West Valley College, and Cabrillo College, before going to Riverside City College to teach humanities full-time from 1998 to 2016. At RCC, he also served as department chair, academic senate president, curriculum committee chair, and on the CTA-affiliated union executive board. He went to Allan Hancock to serve as STEM dean in 2016 and went to Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) to serve as VP of Instruction before retiring in 2021. He also teaches at UC Santa. Cruz. Fall 2025 is his 35th year teaching in California higher education.

In addition to his campus work, Richard served on the Executive Committee of the Academic Senate for California Communities Colleges for five years, as ACCJC Commissioner from 2012 to 2018 and he currently serves as the ACCJC representative on the WASC Senior College and University Commission. He served previously on the FACCC Board (2012-14) and is delighted to be back.
